New Release #Review ~ Rangers, RVs, & Revenge (Camper & Criminals #26) by Tonya Kappes #CozyMystery

Book Details:

ASIN: ‎ B09SDJXWMH
Publisher: ‎ Tonya Kappes Books
Publication Date: ‎ June 30, 2022
Print Length: ‎ 173 pages

About the Book:

Welcome to Normal where nothing is normal!

As we say in the south beauty is only skin deep but ugly...now that runs straight to the bone.
When Miss Daniel Boone Days is murdered and our good friend Helen Pyle, owner of Cute-icles beauty salon is standing over our beauty queen with a gun, lets just say Helen didn't giddy up on out of there.

Nope. She was hauled down to the sheriff's department and booked for murder.

Ranger Tucker Pyle is taken off the case because let's just say he knows his Aunt Helen didn't do it, but who better to snoop around to help him out?

Yep! You guessed it!

The Laundry Club Ladies and Mae West once again find themselves with their sleuthing notebook in hand and get all gussied up to find out just who is behind the murder.

After all everyone has beauty but not everyone sees it.

My Review:

Mae, Hank, Dottie, and the Laundry Club ladies are back in Rangers, RVs, & Revenge, book 26 in the Camper & Criminals series by Tonya Kappes. It's Daniel Boone Days in Normal, Kentucky and they've just crowned the Miss Daniel Boone Days queen. When she's later murdered during the festival, all eyes point to the woman holding the gun - Helen Pyle. Scorned owner of Cute-icles, Helen has been very vocal about her disappointment in the newly crowned Miss Daniel Boone Days queen. Taking things as far as murder is out of character for Helen, and Mae knows it just as much as Tucker knows.

Mae discovers several potential suspects and the author kept me guessing which one committed the murder. The book was full of twists, turns, red herrings, and directional shifts. The author would have Mae follow one path, only to suddenly have her change course. There was suspense all the way up to the reveal.

As with the rest of the books in the series, the mystery isn't the only thing going on in the book. Tonya Kappes did a terrific job weaving the main storyline and several other ones together. The characters are wonderfully crafted, realistically written, and I feel like I'm coming home to Normal, or wherever the Laundry Club may be, with every book in the series.

I was provided a copy of this book to read.

My Review and Rating:

Flared Stiff (Bonnie & Clyde Mysteries #5)Flared Stiff by Julie Anne Lindsey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Flared Stiff if the fifth book in Julie Anne Lindsey’s Bonnie and Clyde Mysteries series. Bonnie turns 40in Flared Stiff, and she’s thrown a celebration to commemorate the occasion. When Bonnie’s friend Gretchen, is confronted by a client’s husband at the party, tension escalates. Apparently, Gretchen gave some love advice that didn’t set well. When the man is found dead the next day, all signs point to Gretchen. Bonnie knows Gretchen didn’t commit murder and she can’t help but get involved in the investigation.
I loved Flared Stiff. The characters, setting, and plot are engaging. The murder isn’t the only theme in the book, giving the book a lot of realism. The book is full of excellent imagery and character development. Bonnie, Clyde, Mason, Gigi, and all the rest, are fun characters.

The author's writing style is fluid, and the pacing is perfect. The story is so easy to read that when I reached the end, I couldn’t believe I was done already. I found myself engaged and completely captivated in the story from the very beginning. I really enjoyed Flared Stiff and can't wait for the next book.

I was provided a copy of this book to read.

Adventure, Abduction, & Arrest (A Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery Series Book 25)Adventure, Abduction, & Arrest by Tonya Kappes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Adventure, Abduction, & Arrest is the 25th book in the Camper & Criminals series by Tonya Kappes. This book finds most of the gang out of town at a retreat to help Hank locate a missing person. Kyra Tenney left home to work on becoming a Forest Bathing Therapist. Kyra disappears after hiking through the forest near the retreat. When a smoldering body is discovered amid an accidental fire, the group thought it was case closed. That is until the coroner provides information about the body that opens the case wide open.

The author kept me guessing about who was responsible. There were several characters at the retreat who fill the bill, along with outside characters. The book was full of twists, turns, red herrings, and shifts in direction. The mystery would start out going one direction, then completely shift a new way. The suspense build-up was written well and intensified right until the very end.

As with the rest of the books in the series, the mystery isn't the only thing going on in the book. Tonya Kappes did a terrific job weaving the main storyline and several smaller ones together. The characters are wonderfully crafted, realistically written, and I feel like I'm coming home to Normal, or wherever the Laundry Club may be, with every book in the series.

Cozy Mystery Book Review ~ Four Leaf Felony (Holiday Cozy Mystery Book 1) by Tonya Kappes #Cozymystery #TonyaKappes

Smiling eyes aren't shining upon Violet Rhinehammer!

Violet Rhinehammer finally got the call! She's been working so hard in her hometown of Normal, Kentucky as a reporter for Channel Two News and the Normal Gazette to get the national attention to she believes she rightfully deserves!

Now is her time! Violet got an interview of a lifetime with a huge national news network. It didn't take her long to pack her bag and hop on an airplane leaving Normal, Kentucky behind!

While in flight she was so busy dreaming about her opportunity. The passenger sitting next to Violet yammered on and on about her grandchildren, Violet had to use her southern manners to excuse herself to the bathroom after the woman gave Violet a headache.

After all, Violet had to keep her head in the game because she was determined to get the job so she didn't have to go back to her small hometown.

Violet's moment of bathroom silence quickly turned to chaos after she found a dead body in the airplane bathroom causing the pilot to make an emergency landing in the small town Holiday Junction.

The NTSB has grounded any flights leaving in or out of Holiday Junction and every passenger is considered a suspect which means Violet Rhinehammer is stranded until the murder is solved. Y'all know Violet! She's not going to sit on her laurels, she's using her keen journalist skills and possibly a little help from the Laundry Club Ladies from Normal, Kentucky to solve the crime.

After all, she's got to show up for her big interview and her dream job is slipping through her hands.

Four Leaf FelonyFour Leaf Felony by Tonya Kappes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Four Leaf Felony is a spin-off of the Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery series by Tonya Kappes. The spin-off stars Normal’s ace reporter, Violet Rhinehammer as she is offered what she thinks is the opportunity of a lifetime and finally, her chance to leave Normal for bigger and better things. Unfortunately, fate is not on Violet’s side.

Violet finds a dead body in the bathroom on the airplane and knows as soon as she sees it, that the death is no accident. Foul play is certain. Now she’s stuck on a plane with a murderer until the pilot makes an emergency landing in Holiday Junction. Everyone is a suspect, so no one can leave until the murder is solved and culprit apprehended.

No one to sit on the sidelines, Violet makes it her mission to report on, and hopefully solve, this case. As she investigates, she learns Holiday Junction isn’t your average small town. The residents are quirky, their traditions set and there is no wavering, and the festivities outlandish. Just wait until you meet the mayor!

I found Four Leaf Felony a fun and quick read. Violet’s character in the Camper and Criminals series didn’t impress me much and I had a hard time with her in the beginning of this spin-off. She was pretentious and condescending in certain scenes. Sure, she’s a reporter in Normal, KY but an international journalist she is not. Honestly, the Violet at the beginning of Four Leaf Felony and I would never be friends. However, that said, she finally loosens up a bit after getting to know and understand the town and its residents and I found myself enjoying her character a little bit more.

I enjoyed getting to know everyone in Holiday Junction. We get to meet a lot of interesting people and learn how important holidays are in this town. The mystery was well thought out and I didn’t have a clue who the murderer was or why until the author reveals everything. I was shocked. Definitely looking forward to the next book.

No Farm No FowlNo Farm No Fowl by Julie Anne Lindsey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Louisa Eggers has finally opened up her souffle stand, Souffle the Day and it’s really taking off. Her specialty breakfasts are a hit with Meadowbrook residents and beyond. She’s hopeful that a local food blogger who’s been visiting will give high praise to her establishment, and with that praise, more customers.

She’s shocked to learn his blog about his experiences at Souffle the Day are unflattering and instead of brining in more customers, even her loyal ones stay away. Even more shocking is the death of the food blogger, on one of her meals at the stand, and in front of half of the town. All eyes, and fingers, point to Louisa and her nest egg may have just cracked, for good.

No Farm No Fowl is a fantastic cozy mystery by Julie Anne Linsdey. Thelma and Louisa are back in their very own spin-off series. We first met them in Bonnie & Clyde Mysteries, and I loved Louisa and her chicken Thelma so much. I’m so glad the author gave them their own series.

The story is well-written and fast-paced. I enjoyed learning more about Louisa’s relationship with her mother and seeing Louisa slowly come to realize her mother only wants the best for her. Louisa’s slow-burn with Eli is cute and I’ve enjoyed their dance since the first time they were paired together on the pages. The dynamics between Louisa and Mary, her new friend, are fun and electric. Total opposites, Louisa and Mary still manage to get along, have each other’s backs, and show true loyalty to one another.

Enjoyable characters, story, theme, and mystery. Of course, the animals steal the show, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Purse snatchers and murder are the crimes of the day in the latest Killer Coffee Mystery by Tonya Kappes. Roxy Bloom dives right into the investigation and finds secrets, jealousy, and several suspects. Now she just must figure out who did it and why.

Barista Bump-Off pulls you in and keeps you engaged. The mystery of the thefts and eventual murder was well-written and kept me on my toes. Are the thefts and the death related? If not, now we have to look for two separate suspects. I found myself guessing at who the thief could be, who the murder could be, and who might have been capable for both.

I was not at all clued into who the thief and murderer were until the reveal. The person, or persons, wasn’t even on my radar. Every time I thought the suspect, or suspects, was this person or that person, something would happen, and I’d have to try and figure it out again. I love that in a mystery - fill the book full of twists and turns, red herrings, and deliberate misdirects so I have a hard time figuring everything out.

I enjoyed all the characters and the amount of humor added to the mix. The world building had me feeling like I was right in the middle of Honey Springs. I was able to visualize the town, the activities, the people, and feel the emotions.
