Gear, Grills, & Guns is the 13th book in Tonya Kappes' Camper and Criminals cozy mystery series. It is Fall in Normal, KY and the Happy Trails Campground is bustling with activity. New campers will be flooding the campground to take part in the Fall in the Forest community event. The event features music, local vendors, and a car show. When Wendell Holliday is found shot to death in his bungalow and one of the campers goes up in flames, Mae knows she has to begin her sleuthing to figure out just what is going on in her campground.

The Camper and Criminal series is so much fun. The mystery was exciting, intriguing, and kept me guessing. The author did a wonderful job introducing several potential suspects and providing the read with means, motive, and opportunities for each. There were twists and turns that had me going in one direction only to have the mystery shift. The author did a great job building up the suspense until the reveal of the murderer and motive. As Mae and the Laundry Club unravel the murder, shocking events are revealed, suspects are added, as well as removed, from the list, and danger abounds. We also get a glimpse into Mae’s past. Her childhood was upsetting and events that occur in her campground in this book bring those horrific memories to the surface.

Fortunately, Mae has a wonderful network of caring people around her from her mom Mary Elizabeth and Hank her boyfriend, to every single woman in the Laundry Club. I love how the author developed the characters and created such a fun and entertaining world. If felt like I was in Normal, Kentucky with the characters, helping Mae and the Laundry Club figure out who killed the victim and why.

I was provided a copy of this book to read.
